The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Targets Solar Roof Electrics to Reach 1 Gigawatt in Three Years
JAKARTA, APBI-ICMA: Director General of Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Rida Mulyana, targets Solar Power Plants (PLTS) to be installed at 1 giga watt (GW) within three years.
He hopes that with the issuance of Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No. 29 of 2018 regarding the use of a rooftop solar power plant (PLTS) system for consumers of PT PLN (Persero), it can attract the public to install solar panel roofs in their homes.
"Approximately one gigawatt target is installed in three years," Rida said in Jakarta on Wednesday (11/28/2018).
Rida added, all PLN customers are allowed to install this roof PLTS. With the increasing number of rooftop solar power plants, it is expected to boost the utilization of new renewable energy in the national energy mix.
"All PLN customers, both household, industrial, commercial (may). The aim is to save the tip for the conservation of a clean environment," said Rida.
Based on PLN data, there are currently 553 customers using this solar panel rooftop. In the last 10 months, the increase reached 64 percent.
Previously, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Ignasius Jonan, issued a Ministerial Regulation (Permen) Number 49 of 2018 concerning the Use of Roof Solar Power Systems by Consumers of PT PLN. This rule is valid since it was enacted on November 16, 2018.
The regulation aims to increase the utilization of new renewable energy in the national energy mix, and also to save PLN's electricity bill. The calculation of export and import of electrical energy from PLTS Roof is calculated based on the value of Export kWh which is recorded in the kWh meter of exports and imports multiplied by 65 percent.
If the amount of electricity exported is greater than the amount of electricity imported in the current month, then the excess will be accumulated and calculated as a reduction in the customer's electricity bill the following month.
