The government targets post-mining reclamation of more than 7,000 hectares by 2019

JAKARTA, APBI-ICMA: KONTAN.CO.ID April 23, 2019 reported that the area of ​​post-mining reclamation is targeted to continue to increase. Throughout this year, the government targets reclamation to reach more than 7,000 hectares (ha).

Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Ego Syahrial revealed that mining reclamation activities have increased in the past 5 years. Ego said that the extent of reclamation in 2014 reached 6,597 ha, increasing to 6,950 ha in 2018.

"In 2019, it is expected to reach more than 7,000 hectares. Reclamation activities are expected to produce environmental added value and create better conditions than before mining activities were carried out," Ego explained through a written statement on Tuesday (23/4).

Ego said, the obligation of post-mining reclamation is attached to the holder of a mining business permit (IUP). Furthermore, the holder of the IUP is obliged to place collateral by not eliminating the obligation of reclamation and post-mining.

He also said, post-mining activities are also aimed at completing environmental and social recovery activities at the time the mine ends with the main focus of the community's socio-economic sustainability.

"Reclamation after mining activities must be our focus. Besides aiming at preventing erosion or reducing the flow of reclaimed runoff water to keep the land to become more stable and of course to make the land more productive," added Ego.

Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Ministry of Life and Forestry Bambang Hendroyono conveyed that forest reclamation must be carried out by holders of Forest Zone Loan Use Permits in disturbed (on-site) forest areas.

While the rehabilitation of the watershed is a planting activity on the location of critical land both inside and outside the forest area outside the IPPKH (off-site) area.

"The Forest and Land Rehabilitation Program in 2019 is one of the National Priority programs, and it is hoped that the IPPKH Forest Reclamation and Watershed Rehabilitation activities can be carried out on time and according to the provisions," he said.
